BIAY - Exodus 3 - Burning Bush
What did the burning bush look like? Exodus 3:2 says:
There the angel of the LORD appeared to him in a flame of fire out of a bush; he looked, and the bush was blazing, yet it was not consumed.
Exodus 3:2
Not exactly a helpful description. So, artists have tried to imagine what it might have looked like but I had a “burning bush” moment the other morning - same day that I read this section of Exodus.
It was a really cold morning and there was heavy frost that had emerged. It was not a morning for a long walk so we did this short wooded trail. It was, honestly, a frustrating walk. Scout was not being super cooperative and we missed getting to this beautiful vantage point for what was a stunning beginning of the sunrise. I was getting to a point where I felt like, “let’s just get this done.” And then, as we were coming to the final turn in the woods, there was the burning bush moment.
The sun was just emerging from the horizon and the golden light was illuminating the frost that was all over the empty branches of the winter trees. The picture doesn’t come close to doing the moment justice. It was like the whole moment was illuminated in yellow and orange.
That moment told me that all the angst and anxiety...not worth it. Just take in the beauty of the morning...
