There’s a scene in the latter third of The Princess Bride where Inigo, the Spanish swordsman, is found having gone “back to the beginning” after other plans had fallen apart...But while I’m doing a bit of going back to the beginning, it isn’t because things have fallen apart. Instead, I’m going back to words that have spoken deeply to me in the past at significant times and I feel led to return to them again.
Very interesting thoughts. I have a nephew not much younger than you, I think, who also likes those movies. I will share some of your thoughts with him too..
You are gradually changing my mind about the psalms, at least phrases from them.
You will probably never get to see Waiting for Godot. I saw it once done by college students at Audubon University. It's supposed to be a comedy. They didn't know that. Sigh. Then I saw it on Broadway: https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-reviews/waiting-godot-theater-review-93103/ - with John Goodman and Nathan Lane - That was funny and made the 3+ hour play much more enjoyable.
So, now Psalm 27 is marked in my new, crispy-paged bible. Thank you for giving me that little gift. It's in your book on January 21st? That's today. I've come to recognize God in those spiritual presents as well as the presenter.
Princess Bride. The Psalms. Working Out. Alien. Colorado? Check. Check. Check. Check. Much in common. Do you know Scott or Kristi Beebe? Enjoy your columns and loved the Face Hugger Updates :)
OMG. You packed a lot into this entry, Ed. The Princess Bride reference reminds me of Waiting for Godo. You probably haven't seen that play. Its existential and the plot is about a couple of men waiting for something. Is it God they are waiting for? We never know.
My own spiritual experience is always waiting for God. I'm impatient but this waiting stuff is teaching me and training me to sit still, stop fighting, and put every speck of my being in God's hands. Trust and Hope. Like you, I'm also being led to public places more often. I could go to the gym but its hard enough for me to get there much less attempt to move once I'm there! I don't know. I guess I'll just wait for more instructions.
I have never seen Waiting for Godot performed on stage but I did read it years ago and was profoundly moved by it. I'd love to see it on stage sometime though!
I noted that in my book (which will someday arrive in print from Amazon - grrr), the January 21 entry was quoting Psalm 27 about "be strong and let your heart take courage and wait for the Lord"
Love the facehugger. Big Alien fan over here! I think the Director's Cut of Alien3 has some great moments and is worthy of being part of the discussion, but Resurrection and beyond don't really exist as far as I'm concerned. Romulus was good and it was fun being back in that world. I'd maybe give it 7.5 out of 10. What was your score?
About the same - I gave it a 7 on imdb. I thought it was a fun movie overall. i didn't realize there was a directors cut of Alien 3. I assume it is on the blu-ray set? I got the blu-ray set for the first two but never touched the third. I'll check it out.
Back to Romulus...The scene with the acid and the zero-grav... wow.
Yes if you're a fan it's a must-watch, with a very different (superior) birth scene.
What let Romulus down for me were the unnecessary references to the original movies ("Get away from her..." being the worst), and I'm not sure how I felt about the creature at the end.
I am way behind on email. Sorry.

Apologies never necessary. And thank you for sharing this!
You gave us a lot of things to cogitate. The Josef Albers color mix theory on the topic of mats and highlights in the dead zone was quite relatable.
Interesting academic response- and pure joy in compare/contrast practices- in the Psalms 2.0 version.
Scout's paws... with all due respects: adorbs ❤️
Appreciate the full context of life up close, Ed.
Scout thanks you for the adorbs...
I am going to have to look up Josef Albers... :-)

I'm going to convert you on the Psalms! :-)
Psalm 27 acutally shows up in the reflection for tomorrow, January 22...
Gosh, our treadmill motor newly needs fixing, are we living parallel lives? Great post.
Yikes - there is some creepy parallel life thing going on. Lol

Also just read your profile...spiritual mischief. Love it. #goodtrouble
I do not know Scott or Kristi but my guess is that since you included them here, I'd probably love them! And lol on the all the checks...

I saw the stage play, as well. And learned the pronunciation was Gŏd-ōt.

I agree on those points for sure on Romulus.
