Advent Day 6 - Waiting
This morning, I was at Kroger and the store that morning must have been short staffed. There was only one checkout line open (it was about 10a) and only half of the self-checkout lines were working as well. So the line for the “traditional” checkout was about 10 people deep and the self-checkout was equally so. I could hear a gentleman in one of the lines grumbling not-so-quietly about the situation and as I stood in line I found some rumblings of impatience stirring in me as well. Seriously Kroger, it is 10a on a Friday morning...etc. But gratefully that was checked by what I read that Nancy shared in our devotional this morning about waiting in this season. She shared some beautiful passages from Isaiah, Psalms, Lamentations, Micah, and then she closed with Romans and a few further thoughts...
Romans 12:12 "Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer."
The last from Romans is my favorite. I refer to it often to remind myself to hang in there, be patient, and pray without ceasing. As we wait for December 25, let's step back and enjoy the waiting and preparing, knowing that the birth of Jesus was the greatest gift of all and well worth waiting for!
So I got home from the store and saw the lineup of Advent calendars that we have in our dining room - three chocolate ones for the kids, a “Tea-a-day” one for my wife, the Harry Potter Lego one that my sister bought for us, and then one for Scout. Lots of reminders of the waiting of this season...
