A Visit to Narnia
I’m not the tallest person in the world by any means. I just barely sneak past 5’7”. In fact, I’m now the third tallest in my family. Sigh. Anyway, at my retreat, I found a trail that I don’t remember being there the last time I was there. It was simply called Narnia. I don’t know if it was intentional or not but to get there, I had to walk through this area of trees that was overhanging and thick with branches. Even at my height, I found myself having to duck to get through it before I got to the beginning of the trail. I didn’t think to ask if that was intentional to make people duck or bend over to be able to get to the trail. What it did, however, was speak to me about entering that path like a child, with imagination and wonder. I thought of how a young child could have just run through that tunnel of trees with no problem, whereas an adult would need to get to a child’s height to get there. But once there, a devotional led to each spot along the way - to characters and moments from the Narnia books all leading to the broken stone table from The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe. It was wonder-ful.
