A Place at the Table - 31 - Drop
God, we are amazed that You, the very Creator of the universe, chose to draw near to us and reveal Your name to us. We live in the blessing of Your grace and authority. Forgive us when we undermine Your work in the world by pursuing our idle purposes. May we sense more than ever Your glory and grace over our choices, actions, and relationships, so that we would be bright reflections of Your name and nature. Amen.

Today’s focus was on the commandment about God’s name - do not take the name of the Lord in vain or to take it in an empty way. Whether it is using God’s name as a curse or in a way that is not fitting of who God is and what God has done, it is not what we are called to do. Today, I went for a long hike and was looking around for what spoke to me of God’s name and God’s nature - throughout the hike, I saw these beautiful drops of water hanging off the branches all over the place after the rain last night. To me, the simple beauty of these spoke to me of God today - on the one hand, it isn’t that big of a deal - its just a drop of water. On the other, there is so much complexity when you think about it - the composition of the water, the way that it is able to stick to the branch, the reflections you can see in the tiniest drop of water, and so forth. God is so much more than any of us can imagine or understand and there’s more that we can find the more that we look. Understandable why God’s name isn’t to be taken lightly.
