A Place at the Table - 11 - Picky
God, I pray that You will give me eyes to see my abundant blessings. Forgive me for my selfishness and slavery to my own cravings and lead me to see the ways that I can join in Your restorative work in this world. God, though some are out of my reach, nothing is beyond Yours. Not their hunger, not my heart. Please take the extra money we have chosen not to spend during this fast and use it for those who are truly hungry. Amen.

I am to a large degree a picky eater. I am a LOT better than I used to be, but I am still far from being as adventurous as many others, especially my dear wife. She is fairly fearless when it comes to food. One of the many things that she has helped me with in our years of marriage is the ways that she has expanded my eating horizons. I have come to eat things that I never used to before meeting her, especially things like you see in this picture - those vegetable things that I tried to avoid as much as I could.
But one other horizon she has helped show me is an awareness of food. Not in the sense of knowing that it's there, but an awareness of the reality that many in our world face. She introduced me to a wonderful cookbook called "Extending the Table" and she continues to both challenge me as well as encourage me about the ways that my food choices make a difference in my life and in the lives of others.
