A Place at the Table - 10 - Fire & Ice
A Place at the Table - 10 - Fire and Ice
We thank You, God. We thank You that You came to live among us to teach us, to redeem us, to bring salvation where there was oppression. We acknowledge that out of the ashes of our lives You are bringing shalom. We believe You are calling us to be a part of Your shalom work in our own cities and across the globe. We ask You to lead us and guide us. We are called to be Your hands and feet. As representatives of Christ we believe we should carry Your message of love and grace into the dark places You came to restore, the places where disease and illness plague people. Lord, do not allow us to seek safe havens, to hide the news of Your gospel; instead, call us out so that Your Good News will be evident to all. Amen.

The prophetic word is what Seay hits on today. He hits on the fact that we are to be a voice in the wilderness like John …”Prepare the way of the Lord!” We are to be the ones making sure that there is a place at the table for ALL people, especially those who have felt like they have been pushed away from the table all their lives. G-d tells Moses that he and Aaron would be heard by Pharaoh as if God was talking to them. I know that its hard to think in that way in my life - do I speak for God? Not in a sense of permission, but in a sense of confidence? I often talk in worship about us being God’s hands and feet in the world, but what about God’s voice, God’s mouth? That seems a lot more scary. That seems like something like this picture - like we are fire to the world’s ice. Something that might not be welcomed, but has the power to radically transform.
